Prince given his own purple shade by Pantone

Pantone has announced that they will honour Prince with his very own purple shade.

Prince has been associated with the colour purple all through his career, from his album Purple Rain to the clothes he wore and he was also often referred to as 'the purple one'.

The new Pantone shade is to be called 'Love Symbol #2' it has been named this after the late artist's logo and his custom made piano. The announcement was made shortly after the 30th-anniversary deluxe edition of Purple Rain was released.

Laurie Pressman, vice-president of the Pantone Color Institute, said: "We are honoured to have worked on the development of Love Symbol #2, a distinctive new purple shade in memory of Prince, 'the purple one'.

Troy Carter, entertainment adviser to Prince's estate, said: "The colour purple was synonymous with who Prince was and will always be. This is an incredible way for his legacy to live on forever."

And we're in love with the colour. Good work Pantone.
